Educational Resources- Cyberbullying

Educating children on Digital Safety aims to reduce the risk of cyberbullying, cyberpreditation and access to inappropriate material on the web. There are many children friendly resources that have been devleoped. Budd-e has a great e-security interactive game type self test, with a primary and secondary versions. Give it a go! The secondary one is difficult and I had trouble with the jargon, so it just goes to show there is a huge gap in my learning!

I checked out Hector's World which has many sections with the aim of assisting parents and teachers of children aged 2-9 on responsible use of the internet. So much information and too little time to decipher it all! Looks like a great resource, if you have the time.

  1. It's comforting to know these resources are out there, but I wonder if schools are aware of just how aware they need to be with kids on the net. On the other hand, when does exploration become something kids should undertake themselves, for their own life learning?

And on the video: it makes a promising point for the future of education, but like a lot of similar videos doesn't address the problems that are in schools. As a state, our schools are so disconnected from each other and these are divides that keep widening - it's true that good pedagogy should overcome obstacles such as a lack of resources, but some of these kids are already facing insurmountable odds; whether they can use the most up-to-date technology or not shouldn't add to their shortcomings, which is why we need access for all instead of a priviledged few. So the video is halfway there, it gives us a vision but leaves us with determining the journey.

  2. Hi

Good point Matt. The video was put up on the blog a few weeks ago and it's intention was to inspire. It was not intended to "educate" per se.
